Welcoming, accessible outdoor spaces provide opportunities for connection, movement, relaxation, and time spent with loved ones. That’s why enhancing the gardens at The Nathaniel Witherell is about far more than flowers. Beautiful, thoughtfully maintained common spaces can enrich daily life for residents, provide welcoming places for families and visitors to gather, and create opportunities for connection and engagement.

Friends of Nathaniel Witherell has committed up to $56,000 from the Friends Garden Gate Fund to support the beautification and renewal of the Rose Garden and front gardens at The Nathaniel Witherell. The first phase of this project will include a new sprinkler system and new plantings designed to create inviting, accessible outdoor spaces for seniors and veterans to enjoy. But the work doesn’t end with this project. Friends is also committed to growing the Garden Gate Fund so that we can provide ongoing support for the maintenance, enhancement, and continued beautification of the Rose Garden, front gardens, and other shared common spaces throughout The Witherell. A strong Garden Gate Fund will allow these spaces to remain vibrant, welcoming, and accessible for years to come.

In 1963, members of the Greenwich community came together to create the Rose Garden as a beautiful space for the benefit of The Witherell’s seniors and veterans. More than 60 years later, we have an opportunity to carry that vision forward. With your support, we can renew all of these cherished gardens, create welcoming spaces where residents can gather and connect, and ensure they remain places to make memories for generations to come.
